In memory of Arshad Sharif…
The courageous Pakistani journalist was shot dead in Kenya
--
The 49 year old was killed by sniper shot early on the 24th of October 2022. His journalistic career spanned about twenty three years during which he won the Agahi Award in 2012 and Pakistan’s Pride of Performance award by President Arif Alvi in 2019.
But he was not just an average media reporter working for fame and monetary gains, rather he was an investigative journalist who had unveiled many corruption plots of many prominent Pakistani politicians, specifically of the Sharif Family and how they laundered money into foreign banks using accounts of their employees as decoys to store money.
In 2022, after Imran Khan’s regime change that led to his ouster, Arshad Sharif, and a few other important reporters were forced to flee the country. However Arshad Sharif had resolved to return to the country and resume his work as a media professional on a different news channel on the very day he was shot dead in Kenya. He was reportedly on the run, changing locations continuously to avoid getting caught. Allegedly, the hit on him had been set since early August.
Arshad Sharif makes an appearance in a private documentary production ‘Behind Closed Doors’ where he is shown explaining how the Sharif family would conceal corrupt practices via deceptive tactics and manipulate wage laborers or employees for their gains.
Hailing from a family of martyrs, Arshad Sharif will be remembered for his contributions to investigative journalism and honorable reporting in a tyrannical time when telling the truth proved fatal.
